POSITIONS:DANCE #5 ACCESS

An online symposium in 5 modules of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland
from 15 October 2022 to 24 March 2023

Interviews with dancers with disabilities

POSITIONS:DANCE #5 ACCESS

What development must there be in German (contemporary) dance so that everyone has access?

What impulses are needed so that we do not exclusively equate protonormalistic body images and movements with professional dance? Can cultural policy provide impulses so that dance does not just open a door here and there for people with disabilities, but so that the whole world of dance is open to them - with all the support, funds and freedom for artistic development?

Together with artists, producers and politicians with and without disabilities, we would like to discuss structures and funding so that people with disabilities have sustainable access to dance.

We had originally planned this year's symposium within the framework of the German Dance Award to take place from October 13 to 15. In conversation with artists and cultural actors with and without disabilities, we developed the idea of leaving the usual format of a three-day tightly scheduled symposium and choosing a decelerated and more sustainable format with regard to the negotiation of the topic.

The modules will each be dedicated to a main focus of the topic 'Access', from dance education to questions of professionalization and transnational perspectives.

OVERVIEW OF ALL DATES AND SUBJECTS

POSITIONS:DANCE #5 ACCESS

An online symposium in 5 modules of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland
from 15 October 2022 to 24 March 2023

Saturday, 15 Oct 2022 - 13:00-16:30 o’clock
At the Kick Off of the symposium, we will explore the question of whether cultural policies with disabilities are needed to provide access to dance for people with disabilities. What does the current cultural policy have to do for this access?

Saturday, 10 Dec 2022 - 13:00-17:00 o’clock
In Module 2, we will address the question of how training and further education paths must be designed so that people with physical disabilities feel invited to qualify and professionalize themselves as dancers.

Thursday, 19 Jan 2022 - 10:00-14:00 o’clock
What does current practice in dance look like with regard to (collaborative) work by and with artists with disabilities? The 3rd module will provide inclusive insights beyond the borders of Germany.

Saturday, 25 Feb 2023 - 13:00-17:00 o’clock
In the 4th module, the symposium is dedicated to the question of access to professionalization for dancers with cognitive disabilities and learning difficulties.

Friday, 24 Mar 2023 - 13:00-17:00 o’clock
What does crip time mean? What intersectional and transformative potential does this approach offer in dance? We will approach these questions from the perspective with disabilities in the 5th and final module of the symposium in March 2023.

The five modules will be curated by Steven Solbrig (author, performer, moderator), Gustavo Fijalkow (Artistic Project Director of FORWARD DANCE COMPANY at LOFFT - DAS THEATER and Leader of UNIque@dance, a project by DIN A 13 dancecompany), Nadja Dias (freelance producer in the field of contemporary performance and dance), Daniel Riedel (dancer, lecturer for dance and stage training) and Laura Schwörer (performer, painter), as well as by Angela Alves (performer, dance scientist) and Saša Asentić (choreographer, cultural activist).

Actors* in contemporary dance with disabilities will be present as curators, speakers, presenters, and conversation participants.

ACCESSABILITY

The modules 1 and 4 of the symposium POSITIONS:DANCE #5 ACCESS will be held in German spoken language.
For the participants of the symposium we offer a translation into German Sign Language (DGS) and a simultaneous audio translation into Easy German Language.

Modules 2 and 3 take place for the most part in English spoken language. Also here we offer a simultaneous audio translation into German Easy Language as well as a translation into German Sign Language (DGS).

Module 5 will be held in English Spoken Language.
Simultaneous audio translation into German Easy Language will be provided. A translation into German Sign Language (DGS) would here only be possible via the detour of the audio-translation into German Easy Language, therefore we decided to refrain from the offer.

Unfortunately, translation from German spoken language into English is not possible at this symposium due to limited resources.

We ask the organizers, moderators and discussion participants to provide a short self-description of their own appearance within each module.

Notes, questions, contributions to the discussion, comments, etc. are possible during the modules in spoken as well as written language and in modules 1-4 also in German Sign Language (DGS).

There will be a 30-minute break within the program of each module.

If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please contact us at any time.
