The German Dance Award is presented annually at a high-profile Dance Gala at the Aalto-Theater in Essen. From classical ballet to dance theater and contemporary dance to urban dance - the Dance Gala presents dance in all its diversity. On the eve of the Dance Gala, the honorees take center stage in a separate event. Due to restrictions imposed by the Corona Crisis, the 2020 honoree event could only be held for invited guests.
This year, the Dance Gala will take place on October 23, 2021 and will be centered around the honoree Heide-Marie Härtel and the honorees Ursula Borrmann, Claire Cunningham and Adil Laraki.
The gala program will be published soon - look forward to a diverse evening of dance live on site or watch the livestream from the comfort of your own home!
Tickets go on sale August 26, 2021, and more detailed information can be found under Tickets.
Honors will be awarded on the eve before the Dance Gala (on October 22, 2021) at a cultural salon at ChorForum Essen. Unfortunately, this year's event will again be open to invited guests only due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and a limited number of tickets in this smaller event location.
The full program will be published here shortly. This year's highlights include "Solo mit Sofa" by Reinhild Hoffmann, "Auftaucher" by Henrietta Horn, "Spiegel Pas de deux" excerpt from John Crankos Onegin and an excerpt by the Aalto Ballet with "Many a Moon".
Tickets will go on sale on August 26, 2021 and will be available through the Ticket Center in Essen.
Since 2018, the DTD invites to Essen to the symposium POSITIONS: DANCE, each time in the context of the award ceremony of the German Dance Prize.
With the symposia we put current topics of the dance scene in the center, give space for perspectives and positions. Dance professionals take the floor to discuss their work situation, artistic and cultural-political goals, from which demands and work tasks are developed. For the umbrella organization, the symposia are an important central forum for sharpening the cultural-political agenda as a competent partner for the dance scene.
Three editions of POSITIONS: DANCE have been realized so far: #1 Future of Dance, #2 Ethics in Dance, #3 Conditions in Dance.
