GERMAN DANCE AWARD

 

The German Dance Award is an important prize for dance in Germany.

It is awarded every year in the city of Essen.

 

The prize is awarded to important people in dance in Germany.

Choreographers and dancers can receive the prize.

But also other persons from the dance scene.

For example, from the fields of dance education, dance journalism or science.

Ensembles or special developments in dance can also be honored.

 

There is a main award.

If you win, you get 20,000 euros.

 

There are also two honors.

If you win, you get 5,000 euros.

 

From 1983 to 2013, the German Dance Prize was awarded by various associations and institutions.

 

The founder of the German Dance Award is Ulrich Roehm.

Ulrich Roehm was a dancer and has been an advocate for dance in Germany.

 

Since 2018, the German Dance Association has awarded the German Dance Award.

 

Since then, it has been sponsored by:

  • the city of Essen.
  • the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
  • the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

 

The German Dance Award is awarded in an award ceremony.

The award ceremony always takes place in the fall at the Aalto-Theater in Essen.

 

As part of the award ceremony, the German Dance Association also organizes a symposium.

The symposium is called POSITIONS: DANCE.

Current topics of dance professionals are discussed.
